The church with its light under a bushel

I walked past our local Church of England church today. It's a fairly modern building, 1960s maybe, set back from the road with some attractive gardens out front. Behind there's a good-sized church hall which gets plenty of use from the community.

The church is placed half way between the local boys' secondary school, which also houses the public library, and the train station. Probably the busiest stretch of road for footfall in the town. And since the road leads up to a busy crossroads, there's queueing traffic crawling past at peak times.

Like many churches, they have a notice board by the roadside. What a great place to put some inspirational posters, or a sign welcoming potential new visitors. The church's website URL in large font, perhaps.

Not this church. They have a single sheet of paper, which reads in small font :

'For service times, see notice by church door'.

Matthew 28:19 obviously passed these people by. "Go".... but not as far as the end of the church path.
